1- How To Improve A Double Chin

I often get asked about tips and tricks on how to get rid of double-chin. I realize that this might be a bothersome issue for many. So I did a little digging into the various causes and ways that can greatly improve the look of a double-chin.

If you have a double chin, you might have started thinking of ways to get rid of it fast. In this article, I’m going to properly discuss methods/procedures that have proven to work best at getting rid of double chins.

But first, let us get into what a double chin is exactly. 


What is a double chin?

The medical term for a double chin is “submental fat”. It is most typically related to weight gain and develops when a layer of fat collects below your chin or around your neck area.

Although obesity is the most common cause of a double chin, not everyone with a prominent double chin is obese. Age, and genetics, are some other factors that can cause a double chin. 


Methods to improving the appearance of a double chin

There are natural ways to get rid of double chin fast without having to undergo surgery. I’ll be focusing on those natural ways in this blog.

  • Face exercise

Although there has not been much scientific evidence to back up the claims, people have used certain exercises to get rid of double chins. This is because exercise is one of the simplest ways to tighten your skin and help eliminate the excess fat around your neck and chin.

These easy exercises, often known as facial yoga, assist to firm up the area under your chin. Examples include:

  1. Puckering your lips and moving them from side to side.
  2. Tilting your head back and looking at the ceiling, then pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth and holding for a few seconds.
  3. Placing your fingertips on your chin and slowly sliding them down your neck, then lifting your head up and down as you resist against your fingers
  4. Try a chin-toning product: There are creams and other products available that are specifically designed to help tighten and tone the skin on the chin and neck.

  • Weight Loss

Since double chins are mostly always caused by weight gain, it is best to lose weight (if you’re overweight) in order to get rid of them.

You can try going on a diet, taking workouts more seriously, and drinking lots of water so you can shed off any extra pounds. As you shed off some body weight, you’ll realize that the appearance of your double chin also reduces and more importantly you should always try to maintain a healthy weight to feel your best.

  • Skincare

  • Consider surgery

 If non-surgical options are not effective, you may want to consider surgery to remove excess fat and skin from the chin and neck area. Options include liposuction and a neck lift. These procedures should be performed by a qualified plastic surgeon.

  • Have good posture

Standing up straight and holding your head up high can help to elongate your neck and make a double chin less noticeable.

  • Hydration

Drinking plenty of water can help to flush out excess fluids and toxins from the body, which may help to reduce the appearance of a double chin.

    As amazing as water is for our bodies it is crucial for you to intake water only after it's been properly filtered to remove all harmful toxins.       2- How To Treat Eczema Naturally

      Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition that causes red, itchy, and inflamed patches of skin. It can be treated with a combination of self-care measures and medical treatment. 

      Causes of eczema

      The exact cause of eczema is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to a combination of genetic, dietary and environmental factors. Some of the potential causes of eczema include:

    1. Genetics: Eczema tends to run in families, so if you have a parent or sibling with eczema, you may be more likely to develop it.
    2. Immune system dysfunction: People with eczema often have an overactive immune system, which can cause inflammation in the skin.
    3. Environmental factors: Environmental factors, such as exposure to irritants, allergens, or dry air, can trigger eczema flare-ups.
    4. Diet: Food sensitivities can be a key contributor to eczema flare-ups. More on this below.
    5. Skin barrier dysfunction: The skin serves as a barrier that protects the body from the outside environment. In people with eczema, the skin barrier may be weakened, which can make the skin more prone to irritation and inflammation.

      How to treat eczema naturally

      There are different ways and methods to get rid of eczema. In this guide, I’ll be talking about topical and dietary solutions to eczema.

      Topical solutions

      • Keep your skin moisturized:

        Make sure to use CLEAN formulations, approved by The Beauty Doctrine, that are free of both synthetic and natural triggers.

        Dry skin can make eczema worse, so it's important to keep your skin hydrated. Use a moisturizer several times a day, especially after showering or washing your hands. Include body serums & creams. This blog goes into more detail about the skin barrier function. You may find a variety of suitable products in the sensitive skin section here. But here are a few favorites:

      3. Take short, lukewarm baths or showers: 
      4. Hot water and long baths or showers can strip the skin of its natural oils, which can make eczema worse. Instead, take short, lukewarm baths or showers and use a gentle, fragrance-free soap.

      5. Use a humidifier:

      7. Avoid scratching
      8. It can be tempting to scratch eczema-affected areas, but scratching can damage the skin and make the problem worse. Instead, try using a cold compress or taking an over-the-counter anti-itch medication to reduce the urge to scratch.

      9. Coconut oil or oatmeal baths 
      10. Coconut oil and/or oatmeal baths can help to reduce the symptoms of eczema. This is because coconut oil hydrates the skin, reduces bacteria, reduces inflammation and pain, and reduces oxidative stress. All of which are key components in preventing eczema.

        Also, oatmeal baths can help to protect the skin and relieve the itching and irritation that comes from eczema.

        Dietary solutions

        Eczema is a skin condition that causes red, itchy, and inflamed skin. It is not caused by diet, but certain foods can trigger eczema flare-ups in some people.

        If you have eczema, it's a good idea to pay attention to your diet and see if certain foods seem to make your symptoms worse. Here are some general dietary recommendations for managing eczema:

        • Eat a balanced diet 

          A healthy diet that includes a variety of healthy fats, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can help support overall health and potentially reduce eczema symptoms.

          • Avoid potential triggers 

            it is important to pay close attention to the foods you are consuming. Food reactions typically occur within six to 24 hours of consuming a trigger food. To identify which foods may be causing your flare-ups, I recommend focusing on common eczema triggers such as wheat and gluten, citrus fruits, soy, grapes, broccoli, eggs, dairy products, tomatoes, dried fruits, avocados, and certain spices and nuts. Rather than eliminating multiple foods from your diet at once, try eliminating one food group at a time for a period of four to six weeks. This will help you determine if that particular food is causing your symptoms. Keeping a food journal can also be helpful in tracking your symptoms and identifying potential triggers. If you notice an improvement in your symptoms after eliminating a certain food, it is best to avoid it in the future.

          2.  Drinking plenty of water can help keep your skin hydrated and potentially reduce eczema symptoms. Remember to ONLY drink water once it has been properly filtered to remove harmful toxins. The common myth that tap water is safe to consume could not be more wrong.

          3. Consider taking supplements 
          4.  Some studies have shown that supplements, such as fish oil or evening primrose oil, may be helpful in reducing eczema symptoms. However, it's important to talk to your doctor before starting any supplement regimen.

          9. Fermented foods
          10.  Fermented foods, such as yogurt, kefir, and kimchi, contain beneficial bacteria that may help improve gut health and potentially reduce eczema symptoms.

          11. Foods high in vitamin E
          12. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that can help protect the skin and potentially reduce eczema symptoms. Foods that are high in vitamin E include nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables.

            The Takeaway

            It's important to keep in mind that everyone is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. If you have eczema and are considering making changes to your diet, it's a good idea to talk to a healthcare provider or a registered dietitian for personalized advice.

             

            3- HOW TO REDUCE FACE FAT AND RE-CONTOUR YOUR FACE

            There is no way to spot reduce fat, meaning you cannot choose to lose fat from a specific area of your body. When you lose weight, you will likely see a reduction in fat from all areas of your body, not just a specific spot.

             

            However, there are various therapies that help tighten skin for a more contoured look.

            • Radiofrequency (RF) Therapy

            Radiofrequency (RF) therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to heat the skin and underlying tissue. It is sometimes marketed as a way to reduce fat and improve the appearance of cellulite. However, the evidence for its effectiveness in reducing fat is mixed.

             

            Some studies have found that RF therapy can result in a slight reduction in fat, although the results are usually not dramatic. In most cases, RF therapy is not a replacement for healthy lifestyle habits like eating a healthy diet and getting regular physical activity, which are the most effective ways to lose fat and improve body composition.

             

            It's also important to note that RF therapy is not without risks. The treatment can cause side effects like skin irritation, swelling, and redness, and it is not suitable for everyone. It is important to talk to a healthcare professional before considering RF therapy as a treatment option. They can help you determine whether it is a safe and appropriate choice for you based on your specific needs and goals.

             

            Who should avoid radiofrequency therapy:

            • Anyone under the age of 18.
            • Anyone that has a history of cancer- especially skin cancer or premalignant moles.
            • Anyone that is pregnant or nursing.
            • Anyone that has had Botox administered to the treatment area in the past 3 months.
            • Anyone that has permanent fillers within the treatment area. If you have temporary dermal fillers I recommend consulting a physician.
            • Anyone that has a pacemaker or internal defibrillator.
            • Anyone that has metal implants in the treatment area. This does not include dental fillings.
            • Anyone that has severe concurrent conditions such as cardiac disorders.
            • Anyone that has an impaired immune system due to immunosuppressive medications or immunosuppressive diseases such as AIDS.
            • Anyone that has any disease that is stimulated by heat such as (but not limited to) recurrent Herpes Simplex within the treatment area.
            • Anyone that has any active skin condition in the treatment area including, but not limited to, sores, psoriasis, eczema, or a rash.
            • Anyone that has a history of keloid scarring, abnormal wound healing, or fragile skin.
            • Anyone that has had any surgical procedure, laser resurfacing, or deep chemical peeling within the treatment area within the past three months or is still undergoing a process to complete healing.
            • Anyone that has any suspicious lesions in the treatment area.
            • Anyone that currently uses medications, herbal preparations, vitamins, or food supplements that may cause fragile or dry skin.
            • Anyone that has diabetes
            • Anyone that has had a stroke in the past

            • Laser treatments

            Laser treatment is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light to remove or destroy tissue. It can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including scars, birthmarks, and skin abnormalities. Like any medical procedure, it can have side effects.

             

            Possible side effects of laser treatment may include:

            • Redness, swelling, and discomfort at the site of treatment
            • Changes in skin color or texture
            • Blistering or crusting of the skin
            • Infection
            • Scarring
            • Changes in skin sensation, such as numbness or tingling

             

            In most cases, these side effects are temporary and resolve on their own within a few days or weeks. However, in some cases, they may be more severe or long-lasting. It's important to discuss any concerns you have about possible side effects with your healthcare provider before undergoing laser treatment.

             

            Some people who may not be good candidates for laser treatment include:

            • People with certain medical conditions, such as certain types of cancer or autoimmune disorders, may not be able to undergo laser treatment.
            • People who are pregnant or nursing should generally avoid laser treatment.
            • People with certain skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis, may not be able to undergo laser treatment.
            • People with certain medications, such as blood thinners or certain types of acne medication, may not be able to undergo laser treatment.

             

            • Microneedling

            Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves puncturing the skin with tiny needles to create microscopic injuries. These injuries stimulate the body's natural healing processes, which can lead to a variety of skin-related benefits.

             

            Some of the potential benefits of micro-needling include:

            • Reducing the appearance of acne scars: By creating small injuries in the skin, micro-needling can stimulate the production of collagen, which can help to fill in and smooth out acne scars.
            • Improving skin texture and tone: Micro-needling can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which can improve the overall texture and tone of the skin.
            • Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles: The increased production of collagen and elastin can help to fill in and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a more youthful appearance.
            • Reducing the appearance of large pores: By creating small injuries in the skin, micro-needling can help to tighten and smooth out the skin, reducing the appearance of large pores.
            • Improving the effectiveness of topical treatments: The small injuries created by micro-needling can help to increase the absorption of topical treatments, such as serums and creams, making them more effective.

             

            While I am a huge advocate of using Red Light Therapy at home (budget-friendly, non-invasive & highly effective), when it comes to micro-needling, I highly caution against the administration of the rollers at home. This procedure is best performed by a highly trained and experienced dermatologist or aesthetician. But if you chose to do it at home, it is best to use the pen rather than the roller.

             

            There are certain individuals who should not use micro-needling or who should be cautious when considering the treatment:

            • Individuals with active acne or infected skin should avoid micro-needling until the condition has been treated and resolved.
            • Individuals with a history of keloids or who are prone to scarring may want to avoid micro-needling or consult with a dermatologist before undergoing the treatment.
            • Individuals with extremely sensitive skin or a history of allergies may want to be cautious when considering micro-needling, as the procedure may irritate the skin.
            • Individuals who have recently had radiation therapy or certain types of skin surgery should avoid micro-needling until the skin has fully healed.
            • Individuals taking certain medications, such as blood thinners or isotretinoin (a medication used to treat severe acne), should consult with a healthcare provider before undergoing micro-needling.

              It's important to note that these methods may not be effective for everyone and the best way to slim down your face and to feel amazing is to adopt a healthy lifestyle filled with a nutritious diet and and regular exercising.               4-HOW TO TREAT INGROWN HAIR

              Ingrown hair occurs when a hair that's been removed starts to grow back and curves into the skin. Ingrown hairs are also referred to as razor bumps.

              Ingrown hairs are most commonly caused by shaving, waxing, or tweezing.  New hairs grow from hair follicles under your skin. Hair follicles are not removed by shaving, waxing, or tweezing; only the hair strands are.

              The areas of your body where ingrown hairs are most likely to form are your legs, armpits, and pubic region (bikini line and inner thigh). But they can also show up on your scalp, breast, back, belly, nostril, eyebrows, and buttocks, among other areas of your body.

              Although ingrown hair happens to everyone, it is a more common case in people with thick, curly, or coarse hair.

               Symptoms of ingrown hair

              There are a number of tell-tale signs that appear when you have ingrown hair. Some of them are:

              1. Small bumps with hairs in the middle on your face and neck (papule).
              2. Skin irritation.
              3. Itching.
              4. Discoloration (red, brown or purple).
              5. Rough texture.

              How to get rid of ingrown hair

              1. Exfoliate the skin around the ingrown hair: Gently massaging the area with an exfoliating scrub or a soft-bristled brush can help lift the hair and encourage it to grow out of the skin. I find Higherdose Copper Brush ideal. The ion-charged bristles wake up the body while helping to reduce cellulite!

              2.Try using a warm compress: Applying a warm, damp compress to the affected area can help to soften the skin and hair, making it easier to remove the ingrown hair.
              3. Use tweezers to gently pull out the hair: If the hair is visible, you may be able to gently lift it out with a pair of tweezers. Be sure to sterilize the tweezers with rubbing alcohol before using them.
              4. Don't try to dig out the hair: Avoid the temptation to dig into the skin with a needle or other sharp object. This can cause further irritation and may even lead to an infection.
              5. Avoid shaving or waxing the affected area: Shaving or waxing can cause the hair to become ingrown in the first place, so it's best to avoid these methods of hair removal until the ingrown hair has cleared up. Use an electric shaver instead. I recommend Braun Epilator Silk-épil 9 9-720, Hair Removal for Women. This product is great because it's easy to use and you're able to shave, trim, and epilate with interchangeable heads.
              6. Look for products that contain exfoliating acids (AHAs and BHAs): Lactic acid, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid help to exfoliate the skin and unclog pores. When pores are unclogged, it makes it easier for you to remove the ingrown hair. Agent Nateur Body Wash contains lactic acid and leaves the skin silky and smooth.               Prevention of ingrown hairs

              1. Exfoliate your skin weekly using a sugar scrub or an exfoliating glove. I love using the One Love Organics Botanical C body polish as it helps get rid of dead cells, which often prevent hair from breaking through the skin surface. 
              2. Dry brush before every shower. The HigherDOSE Copper Body Brush is one of my favorite brushes. It has ion-charged bristles that stimulate the body, remove dead skin cells, reduce cellulite, and restore electromagnetic balance. 
              3.Use a body lotion or serum that has AHA’s and BHA’s. Earth Harbor Night Serum is a good AHA and BHA serum I always recommend. It effectively exfoliates the skin with Macro-algae Collagen, and Vitamin C-rich oils, without the drying effects of other exfoliants.
              4.Wear loose-fitting clothing. This is because tight clothing can force your hair to grow back into the skin, instead of outward.
              5. Use an electric shaver instead of a regular razor because the blades of an electric shaver do not cut directly at skin level. 

              If you must use razors, make sure you are shaving the right way. 

                1. Wet the area you want to shave.
                2. Apply a light body oil or gel. I use Graydon Intimacy Body Oil.
                3. Shave in the same direction that hair grows.
                4. Apply oil on the area after shaving.
