There is no official FDA or EU definition of “clean fragrance.” At The Beauty Doctrine, we define it through a stricter lens than most “clean beauty” retailers:

Clean fragrance must be:

• Free of synthetic musks and phthalates
• Free of undisclosed blends listed as “fragrance” or “parfum”
• Free of toxic solvents and preservatives
• Formulated with plant-based or lab-isolated aromatics that are biocompatible and stable
• Vetted for compatibility with sensitive skin and long-term use
