I've always believed in the power of skincare and a balanced diet for attaining healthy skin. However, now in my mid-forties, I realize that my skin needs more support. I am not one for monthly facials. I've always believed that what I do on a daily basis has a far greater impact on my skin than the occasional facial.
I much rather invest in the tools that the aesthetician uses and have them at my disposal for consistent use. So my tool collection has been growing significantly over the last couple of years. My skin couldn't be happier!
I've collected a LOT of gadgets. Here, I rounded up the top 5 tools that I feel everyone should have in their beauty arsenal, that can make the biggest impact on your skin in as little time possible. These should save you a lot of money on facials, and put the latest skincare technologies at your fingertips.
What are the best facial treatments for home use?
LED Light Therapy has by far rendered the most notable results in my skin. I started out as a skeptic, a couple of year ago. How much could light really do for me?, I thought.
I stumbled on RTL during my desperate search to treat a permanent skin condition, Perioral Dermatitis. Its characterized by inflamed red bumps around the mouth that flare up in response to allergens, harsh skincare products, fragrance, certain preservatives, and essential oils.
The solution that a Dermatologist could offer me was prolonged use of immunosuppressants and antibiotics (no way!!! I wasn't about to compromise my immune system in order to fix a cosmetic issue). So, after years of trial and error, an LED light tool was a last resort for me. It only took me a few days before I became a huge fan of my LED Light mask! Each time I had a flare-up, it only took three to four sessions to bring the inflammation down, and restore my skin back to a normal state.
While that was the main reason why I invested in this seemingly pricey gadget, it was convenient that It had several settings designed to treat other issues. So I started learning about the various lights and their respective functions. Research didn't offer much evidence on the effects of some colors like pink & green, but the evidence was very clear on the incredible impact of red light on boosting blood flow and cellular function, as well as the effect of blue light on controlling acne.
Light therapy effects were almost too good to be true! I thought: non-invasive, no side effect, no inflammation, no down time, no way! But, in fact, the results I saw eliminated all traces of doubt, and made me a loyal user of LED Light Therapy. I even set out to be the go-to expert on the tool, and started educating consumers on the technology.
I posted over a dozen videos on the topic. I also published comprehensive blogs detailing the various benefits, counter indication, as well as top-rated devices on the market. You can find them following the links:
What's the best LED Light Therapy device?
Despite all the information I put out, I still often get asked about the best device for the money. So, if I knew what I know now, a couple years ago, I would have purchased the ReVive DPL ll, which I acquired a few months ago :). This product checks off all boxes; medical grade, FDA-cleared (this is important for safety), and combines all of the lights that have been shown by studies to render results, improving collagen production, increasing blood flow, skin brightening, as well as treating acne and inflammation.

You can absolutely forgo facials if you have this device. It uses micro current technology mimicking the natural current of the body, which slows as we age. It works by going deeper than the surface, toning facial muscles and improving contour. Safe and effective for all skin types.
5- Gua Sha
Gua Sha use is a practice borrowed from ancient Chinese healing techniques, designed to aid chronic pain. Gua Sha stone has proven beneficial if used properly on facial skin. I have used it about once per week, more when I can, to gently scrape my skin upwards and toward the ears. I believe this can greatly promote blood circulation, oxygen flow to the skin, Hyaluronic Acid production, and even skin tone.
I feel this is a must have as a beauty first-aid tool. Let me explain; Cold therapy came in real handy on days I get reactions to chemical peels. The coolness helps take down inflammation fairly quickly. This can also help with morning eye puffiness. The combination of the cold stainless steel & gentle rolling movement helps move the lymphatic fluid away from the under eye area without irritation.
Be well. Be safe. Be beautiful!
