BEST SKINCARE TOOLS FROM GUA SHA TO MICRO-NEEDLING ROLLERS
Having been a skincare expert for a couple decades, I've always believed in the power of skincare, and that of facial massage which promotes micro-circulation. The latter helps increase blood flow, hence nutrient delivery to skin surface, and better absorption of skincare ingredients. That said, many of the emerging tools on the market will have some benefits in maintaining healthy, glowing skin. LED light has also shown a lot of promise in improving multiple skin conditions.
I have tested numerous tools and have been impressed with some more that others. I'll start by saying that micro-needling was my least favorite. I used it exclusively for several weeks, with no results to speak of. The treatment wasn't worth the discomfort of puncturing one's skin. I've also spent quite a bit of time digging into possible benefits, besides the marketing claims, all to find nothing. So I will not include that in my favorites' list, but rather jump into what I found worked amazingly, in order of preference:
1- LED Face Mask by far rendered the BEST results. I started out as a skeptic. How much can light do for me? Well, quite a bit. The first thing that I struggled with, for many years, where skincare still fails me, is periodical dermatitis. Inflammation can flare up in my skin so quickly in response to preservatives, essential oils, chemicals, peels, etc. So, an LED light tools was almost a last resort for me, and I am happy to report that treating my skin with the blue light following a flare up only takes about three to four 20-minute sessions to bring the inflammation down, and restore my skin back to health. While that was the main reason why I invested in this pricey gadget, it was convenient that It had several settings designed to treat other issues. I have been using the red light, which supposedly stimulated collagen and elastin production, and so far I am loving the results. This is definitely a new staple in my routine. Here is the one I purchased; https://amzn.to/3hDLBWv.
2- Fraîcheur Face Globes: I have only used these twice so far. Once around my eyes after a late night working on my computer. It did the trick and decreased puffiness quite quickly. The second time was after a facial steam session, followed by Grown Alchemist Deep Cleansing Masque. This routine helped open up my pores and remove dirt and build up. I quickly followed with ice cold Face Globes to close the pores, rolling them gently all over my face fro about 30 seconds. My skin looked restored and felt tight and firm. here is the link to the one I purchased; https://amzn.to/2BAlDE3. I will definitely continue to use these!
3- Gua Sha: While using this tools is a practice borrowed from ancient Chinese healing techniques, designed to aid chronic pain, Gua Sha stone has proven beneficial if used properly on the facial skin. I have used it about once per week to gently scape my skin upwards and toward the ears. I believe this can greatly promote blood circulation and is a long term skin maintenance that I plan on keeping as part of my weekly routine. https://amzn.to/2X2yDtt. One thing that will make the routine work best is a generous application of a facial oil to allow for some slip. You can use any oil you have on hand, except of dry oils such as Grape-Seed oil.
4- Derma Roller: I have seen these around for a while and have owned one for a couple of years. I don't think to use it often, but when I do, it is quite gentle and soothing. I do believe that Gua Sha allows for a bit more pressure and muscle stimulation. Whereas the roller would be more suitable for a relaxing treatment designed to gently massage the face. I think this would be the best option for compromised or highly sensitized skin types. I found this set on Amazon with both tools; https://amzn.to/301BtAR. The set may save you some money.
We will continue testing more tools and updating this page. If you have suggestions, or are curious about tools you want us to try, feel free to leave a comment :)
