Best Foods and Supplements for Fast Hair Growth

Hair loss is a common concern that I often get asked about. While we can't control some of the common hair loss causes, such as genetics and aging, diet is one thing that is within our control. Rest assured, it can greatly impact hair health and growth.

Eating a balanced diet is paramount to proper function of all body processes, including hair growth. The most basic principle is consuming a nutrient-dense diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, proteins and essential fatty acids.

What are the best foods for hair growth?

Eggs: Besides zinc, selenium and other healthy nutrients, eggs are rich in protein and biotin. Both are essential to hair growth. Biotin promotes Keratin, a protein largely found in hair.

Spinach: Rich in folate, iron, vitamins A,C - all promote hair growth.

Fatty fish, like sardines and salmon, is rich in vitamin-D3, B-vitamins, selenium, protein and most importantly omega-3 & 6 shown in studies to improve hair growth & density.

Seeds (especially pumpkin): Recent studies have shown that a group that took pumpkin seeds daily, for two months, experienced faster hair growth than the placebo group. This could be contributed to the high vitamin E content as well as a variety of B-vitamins.

Avocados: Another vitamin-E rich food. A study showed more hair growth when participants took vitamin-E regularly.

Sweet potatoes: One medium sweet potato provides 4 time your required daily Vitamin A needs. Vitamin A is vital for cellular function & hair growth. It also prevents Hair follicles from regressing.

Berries are loaded with antioxidant which fight free radicals, which are responsible to slower function. They also have high amounts of vitamin-c, which aids the body in absorbing iron. Iron deficiency is a common cause of hair loss.

What supplements help with hair growth?

While diet should be the primary source of nutrients, we all know that due to depleted soils and our busy lifestyles, it's become very difficult to get all the basic nutrients that we need for optimal health and cellular function. For this reason, I am a huge fan of high quality supplementation.
Here are some supplements I recommend taking daily to maintain healthy hair (& of course, body). These carefully curated supplements include key nutrients touted to help hair growth:
Mukti Bioactive Collagen: I cannot stop talking about this! I adore this Australian clean, natural & organic brand. The collagen is marine (my fave). It also includes various other ingredients that are essential for the health of the skin and hair. To name are a few; Aloe Vera, Astasanthin, Resveratrol, Goji Berries, Amla, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, Pomegranates, Prebiotics, Strawberries, and so much more. It's worth noting that this is free of heavy metals, GMO, antibiotics, additives and preservatives.

     Shop Mukti

If you shop on Amazon, or prefer non-marine collagen, I found a great option on Amazon called Perfect Hydrolized Bovine Collagen. It is Gluten-free, non-GMO, hormone-free, paleo-friendly. It has no chemicals, fillers or Glyphosate.

For our vegan friends out there, Anima Mundi is my choice for collagen boosters. It's made with adaptogens such as He Shu Wu, otherwise known as Chinese knotweed. It's a versatile herb that's used for age-related concerns. It's been used for centuries to treat hair loss, diabetes, cancer, and many other ailments. But let's get back to hair! He Shut Wu is the holy grail of hair health in Chinese Medicine. Studies have shown that He Shou Wu helps transition hair follicles from damaged, dormant stages into rejuvenated, fast-growing youthful ones.    https://thebeautydoctrine.com/collections/anima-mundi
Beyond Collagen, there are a few bases to cover, to ensure optimal function, allowing for hair to grow. It is vital to not have any vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin B's or D deficiencies have been linked to hair loss. So it is advisable to check your levels, or take high quality supplements consistently. Here are a some of my favorites:
Viviscal brand does a great job of tailoring vitamins to the unique needs of men and women, including B-vitamins, Vitamin C, minerals and horsetail extract -all known nutrients for hair growth.
